We're Only Here For The Banter - A Band Called Quinn

A Band Called Quinn hail from Glasgow town and in their current form consist of frontwoman Louise Quinn, Bal Cooke, Robert Henderson, Steven Westwater and Adam Wyroslawski.  Their brand of electro pop has been well received in many quarters and the band have had a colourful past couple of years, most recently releasing their album 'The Beggar's Opera'.

Louise took some time to have a wee chat.

Hello, how are you?

Quite tipsy!

It's the question everyone hates, but could you tell us a little bit about your music and your influences?

I'm one of these mentally ill people who hears melodies & lyrics at 4pm in the morning & has to record them on whatever device comes to hand. I was brought up in the C60 culture so my influences are a mix tape of everything from Bach to Butthole Surfers.

What's your song writing process like?

Demonic Possession.

What could we expect to see from a live show?

A bit of theatricality, visuals from Iman4D & trumpet guru Robert Henderson.

If it were all to end tomorrow, what would you say has been your greatest achievement?

Getting to number 4 in the Serbian Diskomer chart; touring there resulting in 2 Serbian/Scottish marriages.

What have you got planned for 2012?

Releasing Oh Jackie - a duet with Kid Loco; shooting a video for it with Uisdean Murray; releasing album Red Light Means Go & appearing on the soundtrack to Lip Service series 2 on BBC3.

At Scottish Fiction we focus on new Scottish music, how do you as a band view the Scottish music 'scene'?

Packed full of interesting, amazing bands & artists.

What other Scottish artists would you recommend to the Scottish Fiction readers?

GoGoBot, Bear Bones, Shambles Miller, Miaoux Miaoux & Star Wheel Press.

Thanks for speaking with us, would you care to share a joke with us?

Did you hear about the guy that had a trumpet tree in his garden? The Council came & root-atoot-toot! (has to be told in a Glaswegian accent!)
