Gig Plug, Gig Plug, Gig Plug

This Saturday, Lloyd, Jim and I gather once more for a blogger's gig, which this time round will be in Broadcast on Sauchiehall Street.

It'd be really good of you to come along, and as well as giving the three of us a feel good glow, you'll also let yourself be treated to these delights!

Colin's Godson are an entity all on to themselves.  Fabulous fun, great sense of humour and not bad at the old music malarky either.



Garden Of Elks released a new EP.  Today.  It's so good that Fleetwood Mac are ripping it off.  Saturday's gig is the official launching of said EP, and you can buy it straight from their hands.



The last gig The Spook School played a Scottish Fiction gig they sported some rather fetching football tops.  Maybe they'll do that again on Saturday.  You'll only know if you come along.  One thing they'll definety do is play quirky, C86 styled jangly pop.  Lots of it.

Scottish Fiction Presents: Aye Tunes vs. Peenko - Jo Mango, Julia And The Doogans, Siobhan Wilson

Time for the second of our gig announcements today, and after the success of February's singer-songwriter gig, we're doing another time, but with an all female line-up.  And to make it all much more exciting, the gig will be part of the West End Festival.  Here's what's going down.

Siobhan Wilson - Originally from Aberdeen, now based in Glasgow via way of France, we are delighted to have Siobhan opening proceedings, with material from her excellent 'Glorified Demons' EP which was produced by Frabbit's Gordon Skene didn't you know. 

Julia And The Doogans - We've long been fans of Julia and her doogans, so to say we are chuffed to finally get her on a gig doesn't quite cover it.  They need no introduction to the Glasgow music scene, and you won't regret catching them live.

Jo Mango - And headlining this feast of music will be Jo Mango with her ever intriguing musical performance, playing delectable delights from recent album 'Murmuration'.


All this takes place at The Roxy 171 as part of the West End Festival on Saturday June 29th.  Doors from 8pm.  Tickets online or at the door for £6.

May!  Gig!  Bands!  Fun!

April Fool's Day is probably the worst day of the year to announce a gig line up, but after Saturday's fun times with Le Thug, Saint Death and Pinact, we wanted to get the word out about our next two endeavours with blogger gig buddies Aye Tunes and Peenko.  Heeeeeeeeere's May!

Colin's Godson - First up are a band who are makers of concept albums that aren't awful.  They don't play live much.  Which should be an extra incentive to come on down!

Garden of Elks - Also in support are this groovy three piece.  They may or may not be real elks. They certainly are creators of good tunes.

The Spook School - Headlining are one of the finest indie pop bands in all the land, The Spook School haven't played in Glasgow for aaaaaaages.  Come and welcome them back then

Scottish Fiction Rresents: Aye Tunes vs. Peenko - Saturday 30th March

Last Saturday of the month and it's time for another does of blogger's delight as Scottish Fiction, Aye Tunes and Peenko serve up our choice of live music. We return to The 13th Note for this one with a line up to rattle your bones and intrigue your ears.

First up are two piece noise monsters Pinact, who employ the DIY attitude we love. Oh and they also sound rather awesome with their blend of alt punk rock.



Cranking up the noise levels are 6 piece behemoth Saint Death. Armed with drums, bass, synth, three guitars and layered vocals, when Saint Death roll out their post rock sound it's like the Kraken unleashed.



And topping of the bill are Le Thug, self confessed abrasive ambience makers. Expect part drone, part shoe-gaze and full on awesome. With a split 12" out on Song By Toad Records in March, this three piece are going places.

Well, it’s Saturday morning and the good news is this nightmare is over.  Starting tomorrow you will be back in the loving blogging hands of Mr Scottish Fiction himself, Neil Wilson.  Before I go though I will take a page from every blogger under the sun and promote tonight's gig!

I shall be opening the evening with my usual chaotic acoustic nonsense, followed by the wonderfully witty Mr Shambles Miller and headlining will be the crème dela crème of Glasgows songwriters Peter Kelly and his fantastic project Beerjacket!

Scottish Fiction Presents: Aye Tunes vs. Peenko - 23rd February 2013

Returning on the last Saturday of February is Scottish Fiction Presents: Aye Tunes vs. Peenko, for another dose of excellent live music. This time we'll be camping out at The Roxy 171, and it's a singer-songwriter extravaganza!

Opening the show is Lovers Turn To Monsters, an extremely prolific and talented chap, with a penchant for lo-fi alternative songs. Get along early and make sure you catch him play.



Next up will be our favourite bearded singer-songwriter Shambles Miller, who mixes humour and social observations with a healthy splash of folk to deliver one of the best sets you'll catch anywhere in Glasgow.



And headlining this month is the ever wonderful Beerjacket. 2012 was a great year for him, you won't want to miss one of Scotland's best songwriters perform in an intimate setting and hear a sneak preview of tracks from his new album due out this year.

Scottish Fiction Presents: Aye Tunes vs. Peenko

Right now that all the merriment and festivities are over with, and the impending dread and doom of going back to work is hanging over you, let me lighten the mood a little by reminding you all about this little doozy of a gig.

New year, new venue. Same bloggers, same mission.  To bring the finest Scottish live music to the stage on the last Saturday of each month.

This time round we've moved to The 13th Note and are bringing along three fantastic acts on Saturday 26th January.

First up are Plastic Animals who are a Edinburgh five piece who are responsible for a wonderful EP called 'Automaton' released earlier this year.


Also heading along the M8 from Edinburgh is King Post Kitsch, for what I believe will be his maiden Glasgow gig.  Equipped with his band expect a glorious array of fast paced garage rock and songs from new EP 'Repulsive Sunsets'.


Headlining are four boys and one girl who call themselves The Yawns.  Nothing yawn inducing about their self titled début album, for which the band are touring to promote the physical release.  The album has earned it's place as one of our favourites of 2013, and a live rendition is not to be missed.


As always be great to see you there and tickets are the usual £6 with entry at the door or online.  Saturday 26th January with doors at 8pm.

Scottish Fiction Presents Aye Tunes vs Peenko

Last Saturday saw the inaugural Scottish Fiction Presents Aye Tunes vs Peenko gig go off with a bang at The Flying Duck, with great performances from The Bad Books, Cancel The Astronauts and French Wives.  All in all we had a great time, and hope you did do. 

And for our second trick...

We'll be returning to The Flying Duck again for another ridiculously good line up on Saturday 24th November.  Here's what you can expect this time round:

Behold The Old Bear - Behold The Old Bear are a five piece from Glasgow and are the brainchild of Mitchell Museum drummer Raindeer MacFarlane, who over time have grown to a seriously good band all in their own right.  We're very excited to welcome them onto the bill.



Campfires In Winter -The boys from Croy are favourites of ours, and after this gig will be favourites of yours too!  The bearded four piece have posted several album demos on their Bandcamp page and are building up to a single release.  Not to be missed!


Gav Prentice - Over The Wall frontman Gav Prentice has got a shiny new solo album out called 'The Invisible Hand' and if you haven't listened to it yet, what have you been doing?  It's a cracking album, and Gav will be showcasing it as the gig is his official album launch. 

With a line up like that you can tell it's going to be a doozy, and we'd love to see you there.  Saturday 24th November from 7:30pm at The Flying Duck for all of this and more!  Once again entry to the gig gains you FREE entry to The Flying Duck's club night 'Houndin The Streets' if you want to make a night of it!
